While Capture does not support VectorWorks (.vwx) model files, it is possible to import a design from VectorWorks including both the model and fixture information. This information can later be useful when replacing imported objects with library fixtures, either manually or using the Import Data feature. When importing models from other file formats attempts to preserve Drawing block name and Drawing name information. Once you have finished, simply close the file you were importing from. When you drag object into your project you have the option of placing them where you put the mouse pointer or at their original position. Its good practice to hit “Update” so the new project gets the same version of fixtures as in the current library. When opening older project files, a window may appear telling you that some fixtures have been updated since the project you are trying to import from. It opens these files in parallell and allows you to copy items into the project you are working with by using the arrow navigator button. It should not be confused with the DXB format - this is an entirely separate AutoDesk format for binary encoding vector graphics. Binary DXF was first developed in AutoCAD Release 10. each preceded by a group code tag, which indicates the type of data element. Each section contains a series of data elements. The structure comprises a Header section, followed by sections containing data on Classes, Tables, Blocks, Entities and, optionally, thumbnail images. DXF files contain a tagged representation of the vector data. The format is owned by AutoDesk and typically changes with each release of their AutoCAD family of products. They are probably the widely-used formats for exchanging vector data, and have become a de-facto industry standard. Binary DXF format is the binary encoded variant of the Drawing Interchange File Format, an exchange format for vector graphics developed by AutoDesk.
